Exhilarating Group 2 race in store this Saturday as last year’s winner returns to compete on dirt track
Nakheel, one of the world’s leading master developers, has added the Godolphin Mile race of Dubai World Cup, which takes place Saturday, 26 March, to its ever-growing sponsorship portfolio of global sports events.
The thrilling Group 2 race of one of the biggest nights in horseracing kicks off in glamorous style at 4.20pm (UAE time). The high-graded thoroughbred race is run over 1,600 metres or one mile on the dirt track, and has a purse value of $1 million, with $580,000 up for grabs for the first-place winner.
Traditionally, locals have enjoyed home-court advantage at Godolphin Mile. This year, horses from around the globe are taking part in the prestigious race. Al Nefud, Soliste Thunder, Algiers, Storm Damage, Desert Wisdom, and others will compete against defending champion Secret Ambition, in what promises to be an electrifying race.
Nakheel has also been a Pillar Sponsor of the spectacular races of the Dubai World Cup Carnival, including the 20th meeting on Thursday, 3 March, which featured races named after the world-famous Palm Jumeirah and Nakheel’s other iconic developments in Dubai. Earlier this year, the master developer sponsored the White Jersey for Best Young Rider of UAE Tour, in line with its commitment to promoting global talent.
Omar Khoory, Chief Assets Officer at Nakheel, said: “Nakheel is proud to be associated with the iconic Dubai World Cup, that has helped put Dubai on the world stage. We are proud to bolster Dubai’s support for local and international equestrian talent, and look forward to an exciting and entertaining race night.”
The 80,000 capacity Meydan Racecourse venue is set to be packed with thousands of owners, trainers, and horse racing enthusiasts.
